Plane Seats For Children ...

First of all do make sure you have checked with the airline you are travelling with what their procedures are for flying with children.

When travelling with young children most airlines offer their bulkhead seats - at the front of each cabin section that have facilities children - to families. However, some airlines will let you pre-book these seats but others operate a first come first serve basis. So it is always best to contact your airline in advance

Check-in With Children ...

Just think how long it can take getting out to the local shops - well imagine how long it's going to take when you have suitcases and hand luggage to think about too. Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the airport. Plan your journey carefully and the amount of time it will take. And to be on the extra safe side add at least half an hour to your departure time.

Do you know the route to Aberdeen Airport? Have you got a map in the car in case of any road works or blocks, if you just happen to get lost?

If you and your family arrive in good time the chances are you will be panic free, and find checking in much easier.

Stress-free Flight With Children ...

So you've left the house in plenty of time but now you have to spend what feels like hours unloading and loading your family and baggage onto a transfer bus miles from the airport. Well, pre-booking a meet and greet parking service when travelling with children and you can simply drive straight up to the airport terminal and your car will be taken away to a secure car park.

It's as easy as A,B,C - all you need to do is unload your luggage (and children!) outside the Terminal and move quickly to check in. On your return, your car will be waiting outside the airport terminal ready for the final journey home.

When flying with children ask the Ground Hostess if the flight is full. Most airline personnel will do their best to find you a seat next to an empty one so the children can spread out - great if they are trying to get some sleep.

Families are asked to board first so make sure you do. This way you will have extra time to get yourselves comfortable before the flight.

And make sure you have packed some toys, games and snacks for your children. For much more detailed advice on hand luggage for children and babies visit the Travel Tips section of this Airports Information Guide.

So, with a bit of careful planning, and leaving in plenty of time, you will be able to sit back and relax on your flight, and so will your children.

Buying Baby Essentials Overseas - formula, food etc. ...

Buying Baby Foods Overseas

Many parents worry about going away with a baby or young toddler and not being able to buy their usual formula or baby food. In the following sections we aim to provide some helpful information about purchasing your baby essentials whilst away including foods and nappies.

Safe Water For Babies

Firstly, it’s always worth, if flying with babies or very young children, to pack a certain amount of baby foods in your suitcases. This is so you can arrive safely at your destination and get settled before rushing off out in a blind panic trying to find formula – it’s especially worth packing some pre-bottled packs of formula milk too - or jars of baby food etc. It’s not advisable, due to delicate tummies, giving your baby tap water when overseas. Give your baby bottled water for drinking. For making up formula also use bottled water and boil first as you would back in the UK. When buying bottled water it’s very important to check that the water brand you are buying contains less than 30 Na of sodium. If you’re travelling to Spain many of their pharmacies sell specially distilled water for babies.
Formula Milk

Whilst formula milk is readily available in Europe you will need to go to a pharmacy to purchase it. Similar brands are available but carry a different name, Cow & Gate in Spain for instance is called Almiron. For more information about buying your particular brand of milk overseas you should call the telephone advice line on the pack of your milk packet.
Buying Jarred Baby Foods

Anyone travelling to Europe will find it easy buying baby food in jars. Hero is a very available baby food in Spain and across Europe. Hipp is also readily available as are products from Nestle. Local supermarkets, although if you are somewhere remote then try a larger main supermarket, should all stock a good selection of baby foods and snacks. As will most pharmacies.
Buying Nappies

Buying nappies abroad is very easy. Just try any local supermarket where both main brands such as Huggies and Pampers are readily available. It’s important to note that in many European Countries cotton nappies are very rare, particularly in Spain, so if you normally use re-useable nappies then you may need to consider using disposables whilst you are away.
