Aberdeen Airport began life as Dyce Airport on 28th July 1934.
Not long later in 1939, the Airport was taken over by the RAF and some civil flights mainly to Northern Isles.
This was followed by gradual post-war expansion of scheduled services until the arrival of the oil industry In 1967 saw the first offshore Bristow helicopter flight and a rapid growth of services.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) handed over the Airport to BAA in 1975, and in 1977, £10 million was invested for a new passenger terminal. An investment programme continued at an average rate of £3 million per annum.
A further £25 million was invested in 1992 to complete the departure lounge development. In 2004, a third helicopter base was added to the Airport and the first phase of a £1.5 million development to the new security search area opened. |
